Today’s Ten Questions With Inspiring People

August 28th, 2008Posted by Sarah

Elizabeth sleepwalks, it’s the truth. She also mumbles and makes dramatic pointing gestures while asleep which we find delightful and she finds, when told at breakfast, mortifying. This band came to her in a walking dream. Over and over she mumbled Noir du’Soeil, Noir du’Soeil. Elizabeth, off as she is this week googled and found that Noir du’Soeil is not some existentialist novel of the blackest hugh, but in fact, a magical Industrial/Post-Punk/Visual band from Perth Australia.  Naturally we had to share them with you. We wrote to the very charming koe, and following is what transpired.

warehouse production – digital perfection – continual – liminal – visual – broken, to restricted space – {silent}(sterile {glass}) – shattered – channelled – amplified & grinded through barren wails – [{(un)stable}(sound),][–][{(scrapings of mind)}]

Noir du’Soleil is a Dark Elektro/Visual Kei unit from Perth, Western Australia heavily influenced by Post-Punk, Baroque Classical, and early Industrial music.

Founding memeber Koe (all music, instruments, production, and voice) has been steadily expanding Noir du’Soleil’s fan base while maintaining activity in local perfomance art, noise music, and DJing.

He self-released the first Noir du’Soleil album, ~Into The Sky~, on June 21st 2008.

The Pomegranate Questionnaire

1. Can you tell us a little about what you do?

I create and arrange audio in an attempt to express my emotions, thoughts, and feelings.

2. Why that?

It is the only thing that has ever seemed right for me to do in my life, and I hope the end product will help someone the same way other music helps me.

3. Does it pay the bills? Does it matter?

Not really – to both questions.

4. What book did you last read?

Junky by William S. Burroughs

5. What is your idea of prefect happiness?

I don’t think perfect happiness is really possible. So I try not to dwell on that too much.

6. What achievement are you most happy about so far?

Someone told me recently that I was the only thing that made them proud to live in our city. That was quite amazing.

7. What is your most treasured possession?

My feelings of passion and determination towards music. I once thought that if you were born with these things you would die with them – but I have since observed they are quite easy to loose. I hope never to fall victim to that.

Regarding material possession however, I am not sure if I have one single item that is treasured above all else. I am very attached to my vinyl collection, Schwarz Stein CD’s, SHADooW CD, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, all my Legend of Zelda games, all my Alice Auaa clothing, and all my music equipment… and my wok – my most useful tool in the kitchen ^_^

8. Have you swooned in the cinema?

Never the cinema.
The only odd celebrity fixations I have had have been over musicians.
I had a recurring dream that me and D’espairsRay were recording an album together and playing Nintendo 64. I had another dream that me and Trent Reznor were buying a house in the country together. There was another dream where cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy was showing me how he made Ogre’s vocal effects chain for the live version of
Love in Vein. Yet another where I was singing live for The Cure and messed up the words for Play For Today, but they were okay with it, then at the afterparty Robert Smith was doing a word puzzle book. In another I met Gary Numan at a coffee shop. Gee, there has been a lot.

9. Do you have a hero?

Yes, many.

10. What is your motto or favourite expression or both?

Now that I think about it, my most used expression would have to be… “Can I plug my iPod into your stereo?”.
Hehehe, I am quite the music Nazi.

Now, one thing koe neglected to mention is that the limited to 50 first edition of their (hand numbered) CD ~Into The Sky~ comes in this…

…details on their MySpace page.
